Frequently asked Questions
|
LOFT INSULATION Q. What is the standard required depth of Loft Insulation? A. Although there are variations in the required depth depending on Local Authority or Government initiatives, it is generally accepted that the minimum requirement is 250mm (or 10 inches) Q. Does the existing insulation need to be removed? A. There is no need for the existing to be removed. The new insulation can easily be rolled (or blown) on top to the required depth. Q. How long will the process take? A. Depending on the size of your property the procedure should take between 1 1/2 - 3 hours. Q. What if my loft has some boarding? A. Insulation can still take place depending on the exact conditions of your loft. Our surveyor will advise you on the best course of action. Q. How much heat am I losing? A. On average you could be losing up to 25% through your loft and up to 35% through your walls. This heat loss is massively reduced through properly installed insulation measures.
CAVITY WALL INSULATION Q. Does my house have a cavity? A. Most buildings built after 1930 are built with a cavity, (two layers of brick held together with wall ties). Our surveyors can check depth and suitability of your cavity. Q. Are there safety concerns with Cavity Wall Insulation? A. Part of our service includes a full site assessment by our surveying team and each installation undergoes a full pre and post installation check. These measures ensure the suitability and safety of each installation and are approved by the BBA (British Board of Agrement). Q. How is Cavity Wall Insulation installed? A. The standard methodology is to drill a series of holes (22mm) in the mortar line between bricks and to blow insulation into these holes to ensure a complete fit. The holes are then re-filled using a closely matching mortar Q. I have air bricks in my house, will they be affected? A. No, we will use a tool called “gizmo’s” so that any air vents in the wall structure of the house will become ‘sleeved’ and ventilation, therefore, not adversely affected. Q. Is the work guaranteed? A. Yes, because we are an accredited installer you will receive an independent 25 year guarantee from an organisation called CIGA (Cavity Insulation Guarantee Agency) |
